The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the premier grant aid agency of the Korean government, and Korea University of Technology and Education(KOREATECH), the implementing institution, today concluded a 10-day training program under the theme
'Capacity Building on Academic-Industry 'Cooperation for TVET
in Rwanda'.

The training took place at the Rwanda TVET Trainer Institution(RTTI) from May 29th to June 9th. This training was attended by 20 participants, who were selected and recommended by the Rwanda Development Board(RDB), Rwanda Polytechnic(RP), and Rwanda TVET Board(RTB).
Since 1991, KOICA has provided Rwandan government officials with opportunities to gain first-hand knowledge of Korea’s development experience to contribute to their individual development and their organizations through its CIAT program (Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow).
This program is the first of a 3-years training series for Capacity Building on Academic-Industry Cooperation for TVET in Rwanda, designed to share Korea’s experience in this field. KOICA is targeting to train approximately 60 Rwandan Government officials in this field for three years in partnership with the RDB (Rwanda Development Board).
This program is specially designed to align KOICA’s project namely the project for 'TVET Quality Management(TQUM) in Rwanda' project. This is one of the KOICA's project with the Ministry of Education from 2020 to 2024 with budget of 9 billion Rwanda Francs.
Speaking at the event, Mr. CHON, Gyong Shik, the Country Director of KOICA Rwanda office, said “This program has been meticulously customized and designed to meet the specific needs and expectations of Rwandan TVET officials, particularly in relation to strengthening academia-industry cooperation and enhancing employability through ICT convergence and digital transformation.
Its objective is to improve policy development capacity for innovation in the TVET sector, aligning with the latest technologies and trends in ICT convergence in the industry. By providing an opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and explore the direction of academia-industry cooperation through digital transformation and ICT convergence, we aim to enhance the quality of TVET in Rwanda.”
According to one of these training beneficiaries, participants learned
to establish an action plan for academia-industrial cooperation in new technology and ICT convergence industries. They believes that it will help them contribute to finding solutions for this sector that the country needs to thrive in the current fast-changing world.
Since 1991, KOICA has been implementing its grant aid programs in Rwanda, disbursing about USD 150 million through various projects and capacity-building programs.
KOICA officially opened its Rwanda Office in 2011. KOICA currently has over ten ongoing projects in Rwanda in the education, agriculture and ICT sectors.
